Excelsior Club Kicks Off at STI, Promoting Reading and English Skills

Excelsior Club held their first general assembly at STI covered court, last October 13, 2023.
Excelsior offers such an educational program that enables its members to attain proficiency in
English literature.
They started their first general assembly by creating a wonderful and exciting atmosphere in the
entire court as they were divided into six groups to present their chants loud cheers and applause
filled the air.
Mr. Erick Loquez was interviewed, when asked about the main reason for conducting the
program, he replied, "Our goal is to promote the love of reading, improve English language
skills, and inspire the participants to value education and literacy. This is especially important in
the Philippines, where it has been a problem." He emphasized that the program is more than just
activities— it is an advocacy to educate people about the importance of reading and the English language at STI. He also mentioned that an icebreaker and other activities were prepared after
the orientation.
During the foundation of the Excelsior club, the president provided a comprehensive overview of
the club's objectives and goals. The club invited Engr. Patrick, a distinguished guest speaker, to
impart knowledge and inspiration to the members regarding the importance of Excelsior. The
curriculum focuses on developing writing skills, including the construction of grammatically
correct sentences and well-structured essays. Additionally, the program emphasizes the
significance of reading and its role in the acquisition of language skills
On the other hand, Mr. Mark, a highly regarded teacher from STI Novaliches delivered an
opening speech that touched on the toxic culture of the Filipino people towards the correction of
grammar mistakes. He also emphasized the significance of reading and its associated benefits.
After all the opening statements and motivational speeches, the club facilitators started to explain
the group activities and the mechanics of the game. Their games were Calamansi Race, Paper Tunnel, Paper Dance, and the legend Pinoy Henyo.
The day concluded with memorable and exciting events, with an arm wave and along with
saying "Sa Excelsior, sure na sure!"with their club signature hand sign. The event was a
resounding success, and the members were left feeling motivated and inspired.
